These clients required routine health checkups with some of them suffering from health conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, and hypertension (National Occupational Standards, 2006). The facility had two floors and each floor had all the necessary resources such as consultation rooms, treatment rooms and recreational areas. There was a garden for those who did not have much difficulty with movement. Compliance with the health and safety practices required the clie nts to have care givers on call in case of emergencies at all times. Visitors had to be vetted as a way of reducing incidences and hazards. Q12 Different sources of information are used to assess and implement legislation in health and safety. These sources include the health and social care act, which highlights the code of practice for adult social care and health. The department of health provides other guidelines on the provision of public health. The different organizations provide information on different aspects of healthcare. By having information from the varied sources, the institutions formulate a plan that considers all issues and provides the most effective care for the patients. As a resident nurse in a health clinic that provided care and treatment for clients with hearing disabilities and others with sight difficulties, it was challenging to make the environment suitable for the two different categories of clients. The plan for health and safety meant that the institution had to be equipped with railings for support and guidance for the blind patients. The deaf and those with hearting difficulties required a sign language technician in the reception and other areas in order to ensure that they got effective care. Their visits were based on appointments with the blind patients coming on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday. The others with hearing problems would come in on the other days except for Sunday. There was a nurse, an NWA staff member and a doctor on call on weekends and during the night. The plan was effective but the number of sign language specia lists was not sufficient. Monitoring ensures that the all stakeholders understand their responsibilities and the implementing authority has the opportunity to change the plan in case of inefficiencies (Nzira Williams, 2009). After implementing a plan for the first time, some of the assumptions made are inaccurate and have to be reviewed to improve the formulation and implementation of the plan in future. Monitoring provides an opportunity to get feedback on different aspects of the plan and their effect on the clients and staff (Department of Health, 2009). Q15 Health and social care practices are monitored by observing the level of care provided to the clients and whether their needs are being met. The rate of recurrence for some conditions can also show the efficiency of care provided to the clients. Expenses are another aspect of the care that can be used in monitoring the policies. This is because they influence the ability of the institution to provide care. The comfort level achieved by the patients is another aspect of monitoring the care that is provided by a health and social care institution (Clark deSilva, 2005). Review is necessary in policy implementation because it provides insight into the inefficiencies resulting from the policy. By reviewing the policies, the authority can change the different strategies to improve care provided (National Health Service, 2010). Improved policies are necessary because they increase the efficiency of care given to the clients. Q16 Problems arising from implementing health and social care policies can be addressed by determining their root causes. This is essential because it enables the determination of core aspects of the policy or practice that have to be changed. Using the health and social care act, the health aspects of the clients has to be central in the policy formulation (Department of Health, 2009). This means the policy makers should consider the reasons why the policy is not implemented effectively and determine strategies that should be changed according to the health and social care act. This provides guidelines on the type of care that should be provided in the social care setting and what is necessary. By understanding the act, the institution can determine how best to improve care and ensure efficiency.

This is an intentional choice by her as she wants to fulfill her grandfather’s desire of saving the unique culture of their ancestors from the damage some of the customs are inflicting upon it. I will write in some detail the interesting travel stories through Africa that these friends will experience and how they change some of their views and strengthen others. Then she travels back to Birmingham and highlights the plight of her people through a book she writes based on her thesis. Agatha initially tries her best to make Agatha believe that she should try and blend into her environment instead of looking for and showing her ancestor’s, according to her, obsolete way of life. Maasai shave their head in order to show a transition in their lives, and Tamara does the same to show her friends and family that this is who she is and wants to stay. This signifies the start of the transition in her life. Agatha’s character is a soft and understandi ng one, so she accompanies Tamara to Kenya where her views are changed. She is also a loyal friend who does not leave Tamara even when she falls into some serious trouble with the Maasai chief. Mrs. Brown is another such character who opposes Tamara’s choice of Maasai traditional religion and culture but comes around with time, although she is still not strongly satisfied even till the end. Rajab and Youssef are two Muslim brothers who fight a lot amongst themselves but their fights are not of a serious nature. They fight because Youssef keeps motivating Rajab to be a little closer to their religion Islam while Rajab is a free soul who came on earth merely to enjoy and marvel life. The brothers provide comic relief and their conversations provide different perspectives on the perception of religious identity in the west after 9/11. But there is another interesting twist to the story, both secretly love Tamara and have their own unique styles of showing their feelings. Rajab f inds an interesting opportunity to be with Tamara in accompanying her to Kenya but is not motivated by her cause, which is until he experiences the Maasai life firsthand. He helps Tamara significantly in giving awareness to the tribal people. Rajab’s character flourishes into the second strongest character after Tamara. The prejudices people still hold based on ethnicity are highlighted through the lack of help Tamara

Men from wealthy families were the only persons provided the opportunity to be educated at the university level. Just as many men use golf to prove their status and superiority today, these gentlemen pursued cricket and rugby. Another similarity with society today involves the importance of personal connections to further your education possibilities and business opportunities. Social standing was extremely important during this time. Manners, money, birth, occupation and leisure time were crucial indicators of social standing, determining not only ones place in society but ones freedom to act, speak, learn, and earn (Longman p. 1886). (alternate view on Victorian society) In the Victorian Era, social class was not solely dependent upon the amount of money a person had; rather, the source of income, birth, and family connections played a major role in determining ones position in society. And, significantly, most people accepted their place in the hierarchy. In addition to money, manners, speech, clothing, education, and values revealed a persons class. The three main classes were the elite class, the middle class, and the working class. Further divisions existed within these three class distinctions. The struggle between social classes roughly resembles a real-life conflict during this time. The book was published during the Industrial Revolution, a time of great economic change in which laborers fought for fair conditions in the workplace, and employers fought to defend themselves. People formed groups to work for their own benefit, thus, causing the separation of classes THE GENERAL EFFECT THAT STRESS ON EDUCATION AND THUS SOCIAL CLASS BRINGS OUT IN THE NOVEL: Education is the one of the central themes in Wuthering Heights, it brings about social status and class distinction in the novel, one of the major differences that we witness between Class struggle is a central theme found in wuthering heights. Class determines hatred, marriage, financial situation and occupation in Wuthering heights. The strict guidelines of class structure break hearts, bring about marriages without love and affect the physical and emotional wellbeing of every character. Even the two main houses in Emily Bronte’s novel reflects the difference education imparts on the character’s dispositions and behaviour. The setting of the story at Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange provides a clear example of social contrast. While the Heights is depicted as simply typical and domestic and associated with uneducated characters: (Nelly, Heathcliff, Hareton, Zillah and Joseph) the Grange is described as a scene of unprecedented richness (80). Each house is associated with behaviour fitting the description. For example, when Catherine is taken into the Grange, she experiences drastic changes, thus going from a savage to a lady (80). While at this house, she rises in status, learns manners, and receives great privileges such as not having to work due to being acquaintances with the educated Isabella and Linton. Heathcliff, on the other hand, learns to classify himself as a member of the lower class, as he does not possess the education of those at the Grange. It was unheard of to raise someone from the working class as a member of the middle-to-upper middle class. Even Nelly, who was raised with the Earnshaw children, understood her place below her childhood friends. When Mr. Earnshaw elevates the status of Heathcliff, eventually favoring him to his own son, this goes against societal norms. The feelings that both Catherine and Isabella have for Heathcliff, the common laborer, cause them to lose favor with their brothers. Hindley and Edgar cannot accept the choices their sisters make and therefore, withdraw their love. When a woman betrays her class, she is betraying her family and her class — both unacceptable actions. †¢It should be noted that Heathcliff uses the Victorian’s obsession with class distinct and education against his enemies. This causes us to believe that he is more exposed to Victorian class distinction, more than the other characters of the novel as he is sagacious enough that he discovers that by depriving Heathcliff of an education he ultimately separates him from Catherine as he is then ranked among a servant. †¢Due to Heathcliff, in a cyclical turn of events, Hindley’s own son due a combination of his own neglect and Heathcliff’s cruelty is deprived of education. The fact that he is deprived of education deprives him of any social consequence and his own birthright, emphasizing Emily Bronte’s theme that class and social standing can’t exist without education. Hareton realizes the importance of education in Victorian society. †¢Heathcliff’s revenge on him is to make Hareton a double of a younger Heathcliff, by denying Hareton his right to an education he makes Hareton less than a servant in Victorian society. This is emphasized by Linton Heathcliff and Catherine Linton’s treatment of him. As Walker shows, many females did not finish school, and were instead married away at early ages. Also, many young males were not able to attend school long, considering they were needed to help farm the land. Because of this, most of dialogue in the book is written as if an uneducated person was trying to speak English. For example, many sentences appear to have not only spelling, but grammatical errors as well, such as â€Å"Where us going? ast the oldest girl.† In one of the main character’s, Celie, letters to her sister Nettie, she comments on how two women are trying to teach her how to â€Å"talk†. She states, â€Å"She say us not so hot. A dead country give-away. You say US where most people say WE, she say, and peoples think you dumb. Colored peoples think you a hick and white folks be amuse.† However, in Nettie’s letters to Celie, Walker uses correct grammar and spelling. This is because Nettie was more educated than most of the black people in the South, going to school for many years. Therefore, Walker is using the two sister’s English to show a direct contradiction in the way most blacks in the South at that time spoke, and the way a few that were schooled well spoke. Thus, the reader is able to gauge the education level of the characters in the book by their dialogue. This level is in direct correlation with the level of education of the blacks that really did exist in the South after the Civil War, due to lack of school funding and time for learning. Celie’s point of view is particularly interested. Unlike Nettie, Celie is an uneducated woman, having been forced to drop out of school around the age of fourteen when she became pregnant by her Pa. Her lack of education is apparent from her poor spelling and grammar. Nettie, however, is educated. Her spelling and grammar are correct, and her letters discuss more complex topics, such as women’s rights, civil rights, religion, politics, and more. However, it isn’t only Nettie that has an interesting story to tell. Despite Celie’s poor educational background, Celie tells a powerful story. In this sense, Walker’s chosen narrator shows that all people, including poor, uneducated, victimized black women have an important story to tell. Theodore Roosevelt and Progressivism Despite the criticism of their reform efforts, Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson's commitment to and success in achieving national reform made them successful progressive presidents. There hasn't yet been a presidency that didn't receive criticism, with or without justification. Roosevelt in particular, received a lot of praise and criticism for his successes and failures. Overall, however, both Roosevelt and Wilson acknowledged and were committed to bringing about changes during their presidencies. They were both good presidents for the Progressive Era. President Roosevelt was deeply criticized during his presidency. Robert La Follette, the Republican leader of Progressivism before Roosevelt, was one of Roosevelt's biggest critics. In his Autobiography: A personal narrative of political experiences, he talks about Roosevelt's reform policies, particularly his position on the Anti-Trust Law and his trust strategy in general, and how he didn't solve the problems, but only increased the growth of monopolies and the power of business (Doc E). There were also many political cartoons published which criticized Roosevelt's policies. One in particular pictures Roosevelt singing loudly his Progressive fallacies, with La Follette sulking in the background (Doc G). There was justification to criticize Roosevelt. Although he was infamous for his "square deal," taking on trusts, he busted only about half as many trusts in twice as much time as President Taft later did. The cases he did take on were high profile, and he was noisy about them. Also , he may have only fought trusts because he thought it would be riskier to ignore them. Woodrow Wilson also had policies that were controversial, and the extent of his progressivism can be questioned. Wilson's progressive attitude didn't extent to many areas. For example, he didn't reform the way government corruption occurred. He would even encourage this by giving his friends rewards and punishing his enemies. He operated on a minimal spoils system. He was also quite racist. His reform policies didn't extend to African-Americans. He appointed many Southern racists to his cabinet and was strongly opposed to black suffrage. He considered enfranchisement an evil. Wilson also didn't want to reform social injustices. Offering no support for the ratification a suffrage movement, Wilson preferred state action for women's suffrage. Child labor was another issue he considered a state matter. Reform was something Wilson only considered on certain issues. Despite questions of motive and success, Roosevelt can be considered a successful progressive president and reformer.

Nowadays, for many businesses, expanding means going global; it means managing to bring your products or services to more and more target markets around the world. The technology, infrastructure, and communications have developed so much that it is no longer impossible or that difficult to open up to new business markets. Your global marketing strategy is only an aspect of your global strategy, and it has to take into consideration several details, such as research and development, finances, market trends, surveys and so on. First of all, you have to define your goals; think of what you are trying to achieve by going global, about the challenges and difficulties you face with a new market, or the competitors you may or may not have. Every detail of this process is important, because the clearer your objectives are, the easier it will be to find solutions and be successful on the global market. For example, depending on the countries or continents you want to reach, think of what can stay the same and what has to be adapted to that type of society. Perhaps you can keep parts of the packaging, but the way you advertise has to be different; although you’re selling the same product, how you present it can be totally different from country to country. Global marketing strategy is not important just because it brings your company more money and recognition, but also because it can save the company money in those places where advertising or packaging are standardized. The world already tends towards a globalization of spirit, of culture and ideas, and getting globalized products and services is just a natural step. Labor Unions Rebirth essays Labor unions have been an essential part of American worker culture since their beginnings in the late 1800's. In the beginning, these unions were essential because of the most horrendous circumstances under which workers were kept dangerous factories, unlivable wages, and abusive supervisors were the norm for many hard working Americans. Some of these concepts were touched on in Chapter One of Rekindling the Movement. Originally unions were craft-based like guilds had been, and were social movements more than the business agreements that they have become over the years. Recently, for many unions at least, there has been a trend of returning to that social movement style union. Unions gained strength in the 1930s when working class protest shaped the world, and the wars made the labor unions even stronger as they bonded together in a mutual goal of creating a better American workforce. However, after the wars, new laws restricted what unions could do and people thought they simply weren't necessary like they had once been, and support for the unions seriously faded. While unions have returned to a degree to being political/social organizations, many unions today are still suffering from the negative My union is an example of one that is attempting on some levels to be involved in the politics and social movements that are important to workers, but yet it is still constrained seriously by self-created limitations as well as those forced upon the organization by outside forces. While my union is affiliated with a larger, national union with far more structure and power to accomplish goals, I have witnessed very little interaction between our chapter and the larger group.
